Car Wreck Injuries

Seek Medical Attention Immediately

One of the most important things to do if you are injured in a car wreck is to seek medical attention immediately. Do not try the "wait and see" approach, that is, "I feel pain, but I'll wait and see if I get better on my own." Or another common approach we hear is that "Well I wasn't really that hurt." The oldest trick in the book of insurance companies is stating "Well, he/she was not really hurt as he/she waited x amount of days to receive treatment."

Get immediate medical attention. This starts at the scene of the car wreck. When you are there get checked out. You may be just fine, but safety first is always the best approach. It will prove to the insurer of the negligent party that you were in fact injured and should be compensated for your injuries. Even more importantly, you can make sure you are not injured and if you are injured, you can be compensated and treated for the loss. Again, as stated above, your medical record is the evidence we, as your attorneys, need to prove your damages.

Do not hesitate to seek medical attention if you are injured. Even if you are unsure of if you are injured, it is better to play it safe and get checked out.

Common Injuries Associated With Car Wrecks

Common injuries associated with car wrecks differ from person to person and car wreck to car wreck. Common injuries (this list is not exclusive) include loss of consciousness, fractures, disk herniation(s), cuts/scrapes, seat belt burns, whiplash, muscle spasms, bruising and soreness.

It is common that some of the injuries will not be known immediately after a car wreck for various reasons. First, adrenaline is rushing through the body. When adrenaline is running through a person's body, oftentimes the pain receptors are blocked and you may not notice you are hurt. Next, for some of the injuries listed above it is ordinary to not feel pain symptoms until a day or two after a car wreck. Insurance companies try to use the day or two gap to say that the injury was not a result of the accident, so it is always good to get checked out by a medical professional.

However, it is always advisable to seek medical treatment if you think you are injured.
